How to Get the 2 Best Starter Weapons in Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3
Developer: From Software
System: Steam, Xbox One, PS4
Rated: M

You can never have enough hand holding in Dark Souls 3, an RPG that thrives on cruel difficulty. Part of the fun/frustration of the game is finding the right equipment so that death doesn't come that easily. I present to you a quick guide on how to get the two best starter weapons to even the playing field.

The Broadsword:

Reason to get it: This weapon gets very powerful when upgraded with Titanite, even surpassing most of the straight swords when leveled up all the way. It can be the only sword you need for the entire game because it is fast and doesn't drain your energy quickly. I strongly suggest keeping your starter weapons until you get this if you do a strength build on a character.

Attack Power: 117  Damage  Reduction: 40

How to get it:
Location: The High Wall of Lothric
Bonfire: Tower on the Wall

From the bonfire take the spiraling stairs down. You will arrive on a shady plank of wood. Jump down to the bottom floor of the tower. A hollow thug is waiting for you down there. Escape out the opening up the stairs and to the ladder that leads to the rooftops. Go straight over the top of the roof and down until you see a second ladder facing east. Down the ladder and through the tunnel. A fire archer hollow will be firing at you. The larger room leads to a small narrow hallway. Watch out, you will be ambushed by a beefier thug. If you manage to take the first opening to your left you will see a  dead body with the broadsword.

The Uchigatana:

Reason to get it: The Uchigatana is one of the first weapons you can get with a high dex build. But if you are willing to slay The Master it is a very good weapon for dex characters. You can get this weapon before you find the broadsword, but it requires a fight with a very stubborn thug, The Master.

Attack Power: 115 Damage Reduction: 45  Bleed: 34

How to get it:
Location: Firelink Shrine
Bonfire: Firelink Shrine

First you will need to up your dexterity to 16 or higher or the weapon will be completely useless. Cash in all your souls for that at the shrine. Climb up the stairs to the top and take a left. There is an opening that leads to a winding path that has a row of stone caskets. Follow the curvy path, ascend the stairs. Some lazy Hollows will be waiting for you. The path leads to The Master who instantly starts charging. He has some far reaching lunging attacks. Keep your distance, wait for him to attack and get your hits in. His attacks are fast and powerful. If you are lucky, you can force him off the edge. If that happens return to the bonfire and go back to the same spot and the Uchigatana will be waiting for you.
